The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II a.k.a. "Warthog" is an American single-seat, twin-engine, straight-wing jet aircraft packing quite a wallop. The centerpiece of this amazing machine is the Warthog's 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling-type cannon. One of the most powerful aircraft cannons ever flown, it fires large depleted uranium armor-piercing shells. Nice.

Black Bud Alpha one four, send your mission, over
This is my most favorite aircraft. It's awesomeness can be summed it in one word…
COBRA!!!!!
the tank killer
It's funny how despite all the advances in avionics, weapon systems, etc., there still is not a replacement for this 30+ year old platform.
You can't fuck with perfection. It's a fuel effecient battlefield lingerer with a BIG gun and a huge loadout. There is going to be use for this pig for a long time to come. I can see this being VERY useful in a conflict with N. Korea or god forbid, China.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The A-10 is the epitome of ground-attack aircraft. If I ever become an Air Force pilot, this is the bird I'd fly. Lots of firepower, and the only plane I'd feel safe in.
One of the squads of them has a motto " We maybe UGLY, but we're well HUNG"
I was given the great opportunity to bear witness to a Warthog pummel a taliban position in afghanistan. Awesome can't describe it.
Vid of that sortie would've been AWESOME to the nth degree!@!
Epic fail on my part.
what pains me is to see an A-10 at AMRAC, why the the US top brass want to get rid of the old 'hog so much anyway? and arguments containing "AA fire would have a field day" are invalid the A-10 would take out the AA before the AA got a chance to acquire the target
its not about the AA picking it up on radar, the A-10 is a "Flying Cargo Container". Its the Fact that the A-10 could take 10 rounds from the AA gun, destroy it's traget, destroy 4 more targets, piss on the enemy, sh!t on there undeadtroops and still make it home for repairs.
The Air Force doesn't like it because is isn't fast and pretty. They'd rather drop 500 or 2,000 pounders at 400 mph than have the "ugly one" loiter over the battle field and eliminate targets with precision. Besides, developing new weapons systems (even bad ones) is how many move up in the ranks. They should poll those that serve on the ground and ask what they'd prefer.
427 mph….lol
Awesome monster truck!!!
