You've seen the Revolutionary War cannons in the movies, right? Now imagine one of those cannons firing 4,000 rounds per minute. Now imagine that cannon being mounted in the nose of a jet. That's the A-10. (Ok, so the 30mm projectile isn't as big as a Rev War cannonball, but it travels much faster making the impact is just as great.)
