I was there as part of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit on board the USS Tarawa. We were the first ones to get there after the bombing. I’ll never foregt the crew of the Cole as they came aboard our ship and just kind of hung out in the smoking pit trying to assess WTF just happened. Some of the sailors just smoked and joked and talked fondly about their fellow shipmates that died, and other just had this haunted look about them. I am proud to have been there. I just wish we could have gotten some f**kin payback. Semper Fi.
