Trooper Ellen Engelhardt of the Massachusetts State Police died as a result of injuries sustained in the line of duty. Trooper Ellen Engelhardt was injured eight years earlier when her patrol car was struck by a drunk driver. She had served with the Massachusetts State Police for 23 years and is survived by her daughter. Full Story

Special Agent Timothy Briggs suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in the FBI’s physical fitness program in London, Kentucky. Special Agent Briggs, 46, and had served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 14 years as part of the FBI SWAT Team, and their evidence response team. Special Agent Briggs is survived by his wife and three young children. Full Story

Lieutenant Vincent Perez of the San Francisco Fire Department has died in the line of duty. Prior to serving in the San Francisco Fire Department, Lieutenant Perez was a Deputy Sheriff in Alameda County and he had also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Perez grew up in the Mission District in San Francisco with his two brothers who are now police officers in San Francisco and Oakland. Full Story

Master Patrolman Jeff Taylor died as a result of injuries sustained in the line of duty. Patrolman Taylor succumbed to injuries that he sustained on May 23, 2011 while assisting with tornado disaster response efforts in Joplin, Missouri. Full Story

Paramedic Firefighter Anthony Valerio of the San Francisco Fire Department has died as s result of injuries sustained in the line of duty. Full Story

Deputy Sheriff Kurt Wyman of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department was murdered in the line of duty. Deputy Wyman, 24, is survived by his wife and one child, and his wife was pregnant with their second child. She went into labor with their second child after hearing the news of her husband’s shooting. Deputy Wyman died on his wife’s due date. Full Story

Deputy Keith Bellar of the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office was murdered in the line of duty. Deputy Bellar succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained the previous day when he stopped to help at what he believed to be a car accident. Deputy Bellar had served with the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office for six years. He is survived by his wife and 6-month-old son. Full Story

Sergeant James B. Medwetz complained of chest pains around 5 a.m. at his post in the Hammond City Jail and subsequently died at St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Center. Sergeant Medwetz is survived by a former spouse, son, James; and daughter, Amber. Full Story

Assistant Chief David Goins of the Huntington Volunteer Fire Department died in the line of duty. Goins, 47, died fighting a fire in a wooded area behind his home. He was found dead by a Texas Forest Service spotter plane out investigating smoke in the area. Assistant Chief Goins is survived by his three sons. Full Story

Investigator Warren Lewis of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office was murdered in the line of duty. He was shot and killed while serving a murder warrant with the Eastern North Carolina Fugitive Task Force. He is survived by his wife and two children. Full Story

Police Officer Charles “Chuck” Armour or the Detriot Police Department died in the line of duty. Officer Armour succumbed to injuries sustained one week earlier when he was intentionally struck by a vehicle he had attempted to stop while on foot patrol. Full Story

Deputy Sheriff Jeffrey Alexander of the Chemung County Sheriff’s Department died in the line of duty. Deputy Alexander was killed when his patrol car collided with another vehicle near the Pennsylvania border. Full Story

Police Officer Nauden suffered a fatal heart attack while conducting an undercover narcotics buy as part of a large narcotics investigation. Throughout his career, Officer Nauden received numerous awards, including a Special Commendation, a Police Officer of the Month Award, 2 Department Commendations, a Problem Solving Award, 18 Honorable Mentions, the Democratic Convention Service Award, a Crime Reduction Award and 3 Complimentary Letters. Firefighter Corey Shaw of the Du Quoin Fire Department has died of injuries sustained during a collapse at the fire. Firefighter Shaw, 22, is the son of Du Quoin Fire Chief Bob Shaw. He is survived by his wife Nicole and their two year old daughter Cameron. Full Story
