If you're wondering what's up with #5, that's a private road with several houses on it. Each lock belongs to one of the property owners, and they're linked together so any owner can open the gate without having to share keys or anything like that. One of those locks is also owned by the fire department, so they can get in as well. It's a low-tech solution, but it works great.
