Anyone have any information on #18? I thought the US was the only country which issued shotguns in WWI, but that uniform is unlike anything I had seen before. That also appears to be a Winchester model 12, which was issued by the U.S. in WWI, but doesn't seem to be in the normal trench gun configuration.
My great-uncle fought in WW1. He was a sniper on the Canadian side, and saw action from 1915 until the end of the war. He went over with his two brothers and came home alone. In order to learn more about what he did, I read a great book about snipers by a guy named Martin Pegler, who is the curator for the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, UK. He sent me an amazing photo of a British artilleryman in Salonika, Greece, where the man is firing his cannon while at the exact same moment a sniper's bullet crumples him. It's an amazing feat of timing, and not a little sobering. I'll send it to Rick and see if he can publish it in a DAR or something.
with all the changes from then to now…….some things never change…..we see alot of death….and we owe thanks to each and everyone who came home and those who didn't.

From the skull on the helm. It looks like a German Stormtrooper, or Strosstruppen.
There are a lot of things about that photo that just don't look right.

All you ever see info on is normally WWII or the American Civil war. Almost as if this country forgot all about WWI, a horrible horrible war.
