Fallen Airborne Justin Rollins and a puppy named Hero (14 Photos)

Justin Rollins became a soldier in 2006. He was deployed to Iraq with the 82nd Airborne. He was killed in spring 2007. But he emailed photographs of him playing with a puppy to his girlfriend the night before his death. Justin’s family decided they wanted to have that puppy that Justin held. The dog was found and sent to The Rollins. It traveled from Iraq, Bahrain, Brussels and New York before landing in New Hampshire. The little pet is named Hero in memory of the dead soldier.

Wow! NFW… I just found this…I'm about 97% sure I served with this guy. The name and face add up, but the dates don't. Are you guys sure about the 2006 part? Anyway, I'm sad to hear it. RIP, Rollins.

A little backstory on #13 – The night before Justin Rollins was killed by a roadside bomb, he completed one final heroic act while serving in Iraq. He saved an abandoned puppy, ABC reports.

The Army fulfilled the Rollins' request to bring the dog home from the war zone, so that they could hold onto a living piece of their fallen son. They named him Hero.

While visiting the family in Newport, N.H., ABC reporter Kimberly Launier watched and photographed the pooch as he trotted out to the backyard and a beam of light shined down on him, creating a "vertical halo."

"It was an unforgettable moment," Launier wrote on her blog, "and made me wonder if in fact Justin was in there."

I would love to see a Facebook page for Hero the dog. Justin's dog really inspired alot of people, the story was so touching, I wonder if the family has ever thought of getting Hero his own Facebook page so people could check in and see how he is doing. Any other interesting photos too would be fascinating if they got any. Hope Hero is helping the family to heal. Rest in peace Justin.

Thank you for your service. May you rest in peace. As i grow older I realize that I am no longer bullet-proof nor a warrior. Thank God that these boys serve….I can only hope this story puts into perspective that all of "those" who occupy Wall St are truly fuck-tards.

    • Aerys says:

If anyone deserves to called a load of "fuck-tards" it's the Taliban and/or whoever else uses I.E.D's to kill soldiers like Rollins. Sure those who occupy Wall St may not be as brave and selfless as those who serve in the armed forces but at least they put themselves out in the open for what they believe in, whatever that my be, unlike the insurgents who use cowardly methods that only prolong the war and cause pain and misery to relatives and friends of those who get killed.
