“I am a Corporal in 3rd Platoon, Jokers, of the 257th Military Police Company. We are from the Minnesota National Guard and for about 70% of us this is the first deployment for us.
Some of the things that have made our deployment special: A huge part is our mission, we are here in Afghanistan with an extremely important role to Train, Assist, and Advise the Afghan National Army to help progress the effort to bring our troops home sooner.
The day we left for our mobilization site, basically left home, was Monday, May28th…Memorial Day. It was roughly a a 60 mile bus ride from our home station to the airport. Then entire way we were led and escorted by members of the Patriot Guard Riders, A fire engine from our home town and 12 Police Squads from many agencies that we belong to in our civilian jobs. Along the way there were over passes and exit ramps lined with Family, supporters, but most importantly Police Officers saluting us as we passed. It was an amazing sight to see. People from our unit who have deployed many times still said that they had never seen so much support and appreciation from the community and state.
The picture of the Star and the message is from the Peace, New Hampshire greeters that they gave each of us to take on our journey when we left US soil.
We arrived in Afghanistan on July 4th, Independence Day.
Long story short… here are just a few pictures of us so far… we have a long road ahead, but alot of us are Chivers; so we will just Keep Calm and Chive On.
Thank you for the support”
