I grew up in Daytona Beach, FL. I remember being in elementary school and everything stopping so we could watch the shuttles launch. We'd watch on TV for a few minutes and then once we knew it was in the air, we'd all rush outside and look to the sky to see it shooting into space. I do feel bad for the next generation of kids who wont get to have that same experience.

Some of the final pictures were taken at the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. The Shuttle's Main Engines were developed and monitored by Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne out of Huntsville, AL. Most people don't realize that Marshall Space Flight Center is the original home of NASA… This is where Von Braun came to develop the rockets that took us to the moon and back.

I with ya Rick. Without an active space program, and I mean something public and daring, today's youth just won't get the inspiration that others have gotten in the past. As someone in a hard science field this worries me for the US's future. I really don't believe we'll be able to stay a dominant world power w/o adequately educated citizens in the STEM fields. All of the attention that the Mars Curiosity Rover got was pretty impressive, I wish that would happen more often!

I remember seeing the first one launch in primary school – Columbia I think. And seeing
the last launch a few years back. It made me sad. I love the Space Shuttle!
